Aboutus

We are an independent newsroom. We cover politics, business, technology, sports, entertainment, education and our own community, and we explain the news as well as reporting it. We check what we publish, correct what we get wrong and say so, and keep advertising separate from our reporting.

We verify every story with more than one source before it runs, and we ask the people and organisations in a story for their side. We label opinion, analysis and sponsored content clearly, so you always know what you are reading. Advertising pays for our journalism but never shapes it: advertisers buy space on our pages, never a say in what our reporters write.

When we get something wrong we fix it as soon as we can confirm the error, and we add a note at the end of the article explaining what changed and when. If you spot a mistake, tell us through the Contact page.
